It’s been busy! A new functioning kitchen, thankfully, and despite some last moment trials the plumbing was finished just in time to host Jacob’s 8th birthday party at home this past weekend.
Having been pretty gung -ho about having children’s parties at home before, I was struck with a slight panic when I envisaged pulling off an event that would make ten eight-and-nine year olds happy. With a car theme, thanks to Jacob’s recent jam for Top Gear and all things Porsche.
Anyway it seemed to go well – no one cried not even me – so I will chalk it up as a success.
I stuck to birthday cupcakes rather than a big cake this time…
Did I mention I piped the icing? Fancy.
I need to share the chocolate cake recipe soon as it is totally foolproof, nut-free and yet to be rejected by anyone under the age of 11.
Anyway after some light Top Gear viewing and a short spell beginning some model car making, the event that went over well was providing some white hot wheels sports cars, the biggest box of Sharpies and allowing the car designers to go to town:
Followed by a drag race, natch:
I think mr tMatM was thrilled when I asked him to construct a 30ft cardboard ramp
What else. It’s beginning to feel pretty festive around here, with a tree up and adorned with some smug-and-lazy crafted decorations, old and new:
The classic toddler-house Christmas tree, decorated from 3ft and upwards
Not as festive as these guys on a neighboring street though, with a Rudolph the size of their house.
His head moves slowly from one side to the other. Either the most festive thing you’ve ever seen or the stuff of nightmares.
Life around here! It’s good. More on the kitchen soon. Maybe even some before-and-afters, if you’re interested!

I love the idea of using sharpies on the cars! (And your piping on the cupcakes was beautiful!)
